Phew!

I didn't think it would happen, but I made it into the class! Which means, my capstone blog is not the last blog I will do for Dr. Sexson, as I had originally thought.

Anyways- when making a new blog, or any website for that matter, one must fill in all their information, and in order for the website to believe such information was written by a real person, one must type the unidentifiable letters in the dreaded box. Yes, I am sure you all know what I am talking about: the little box that says type these letters below. If a person is able to first recognize that the distorted lines are in fact letters, they attempt to type them in the box below. "TRY AGAIN WITH DIFFERENT LETTERS" snaps the website, as if the person is dumb for not being able to recognise the word the first time. But wait! You dont even get to try the same word again, you must instead attempt new letters and new squiggles! I don't know about everyone else, but this process usually takes me about 7 tries to finally type the right word in. "Is there a point to this?", you ask. Yes. The point is, even though the words are completely random, and most of the time are not even real words, the squiggles in the box do somehow begin to make sense... but maybe only to the unwashed masses.

The seven words I was forced to try and figure out tonight were these:
Blitter, Flost, Rainging, Browen, Flighty, Parodrox, Slinger

-now, at first glance, you realize that these words are not real words. However, our brains are trained to look at these words and notice the real words that they resemble. For example: if you look at an entire paragraph that is void of every single vowel, you would still be able to read it and comprehend it completely. Also, if you look at a paragraph where every single word contains the same letters, but they are in a different order, you are still able to fully understand the paragraph. Below is an example:

Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in waht oerdr the ltteres in a wrod are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Back to my original point, the 7 words that I could not type into the box, I understood that they were not real words, however, I did understand the words that they were trying to immitate. Blitter- bitter or litter,  Flost- frost, floss, lost,  Rainging- ringing, raining,  Browen- Brown,   Flighty- self explanatory...... and so forth. However, the point of this blog and the words in the box is similar to reading Finnegans Wake. You really cant figure out all the words, but you have a general understanding of what they are. So, instead of thinking "inside the box", for both the letters in the box and Finnegans Wake,  ..... think outside the box. (haha what a cliche)
